13 Kitchen Trends for 2025
Claudio Corniola, Laminam’s R&D Director, predicts the top 13 trends for 2025 and shows how you can create these looks using the material of the moment, porcelain.
With many homeowners starting to research and plan a kitchen renovation for 2025 or gather ideas and inspiration for key updates, autumn is the perfect time to get ahead with what styles, colours, finishes, and materials are set to transform interiors next year. With broken-plan living, invisible kitchens and social spaces all set to lead the way, global leader in the design and production of large sized surfaces, Laminam’s R&D Director, Claudio Corniola, predicts the top 13 trends for 2025, with surfaces playing a starring role.
1. Eco-conscious Materials
Sustainable shopping has seen a huge surge in recent years and it shows no signs of slowing down, as homeowners actively look to seek out eco-conscious materials for their homes. According to theroundup.org, 78 per cent of global consumers feel that sustainability is important and so materials that are natural and safe to recycle at the end of their life will be key when planning a new kitchen. As a material with one of the lowest carbon footprints, Laminam’s porcelain surfaces contain up to 60 per cent recycled materials, while 100 per cent of the water used is fed back into its production and 95 per cent of its raw waste is recovered. Homeowners can combine porcelain with recycled, upcycled and heritage pieces for an all-round sustainable choice.
2. Broken-plan Living
Taking over the reign of open-plan living, broken-plan is a way of zoning a space with semi-permanent partitions – think bookcases, breakfast bars or islands – split levels and different finishes for floors or walls. In the kitchen, this can easily be achieved with a Laminam-topped island or peninsular, creating a point of difference within a kitchen design while also adding a practical area for food prep, dining, entertaining, socialising and home working.
3. Invisible Kitchens
This minimalist trend is perfect for anyone who loves concealing clutter and keeping their kitchen sleek and seamless with a curated feel. Tall floor-to-ceiling larder cupboards, walk-in pantries, tambour shutters, breakfast cupboards with pocket doors and porcelain worktops with invisible charging are all ways to create discreet storage where the day-to-day essentials of kitchen use can be quickly and easily hidden from view.
4. Cream Colour Palettes
For 2025, the key colours for interiors will include tones of beige, cream, mushroom and taupe. Warm, welcoming and inviting, these shades are ideal for creating a neutral kitchen with high-gloss handleless or painted timber cabinetry and matching coloured worksurfaces and splashbacks in a subtle and sophisticated shade. Laminam’s Diamond Cream porcelain surface is the perfect fit, with a choice of Natural, Polished or Bush Hammered finishes. Part of the I Naturali series, this earthy tone also comes in a range of thicknesses and sizes to suit all needs.
5. Bookmatched Splashbacks
With over 27,000 #bookmatched posts on Instagram, bookmatching is set to be a huge hit in kitchens for 2025. This distinctive and eye-catching look is created by adjoining two or more slabs of stone cut from the same block, right next to each other for a striking mirror-image effect. Laminam has over 20 different surfaces available for bookmatching, with its latest Patagonia porcelain surface combining the foundations of classic Italian architecture with the inherent beauty of natural stone.
6. Bold Veined Worksurfaces
Making a statement in the kitchen has always been on-trend, but 2025 will see it taking the direction of bold and distinctive veining for worksurfaces. Eye-catching patterns within surfaces complement both colourful and neutral spaces, enhancing existing décor as well as creating a whole new look. Laminam’s Calacatta Mediceo is a perfect example of how porcelain can be used to inject a highly decorative feel to any space.
7. Social Kitchens
With 1.3m posts on #entertaining on Instagram, the thirst for having family or friends round for food and drink is as popular as ever. To create the ultimate social kitchen, think multifunctional islands with an integrated table or breakfast bar attached, wine cabinets, coffee machines and warming drawers. 2025 will see homeowners hunker down, inviting people over to save money on going out while still enjoying socialising in the comfort of their own kitchen. Mixing and matching porcelain surfaces on tables, islands, breakfast bars and peninsulas is a great way to add interest to the kitchen, while ensuring peace of mind the surface of choice is durable.
8. Dark Surfaces with Metallic Accents
In 2024, dark kitchens were everywhere. Next year, 2025 will see this trend evolve into dark surfaces with metallic or gold accents, adding a luxe look to spaces without being overpowering or too intense. Laminam’s bestselling Noir Desir design and Ossido collection are the perfect surface solutions with their elegant and evocative palettes and patterns featuring the soft movement of veining in ivory and oxidation on a dark hued backdrop
9. Drink Stations
According to Google Trends, Home Bars sustained huge interest over the past five years and with entertaining at home more popular than ever, this practical addition to the kitchen or dining room is set to stay. Drink stations will also include coffee cupboards for that authentic barista experience at home, with savvy homeowners adding a porcelain slab to their drinks station interior for easy-clean and hygienic drinks prep.
10. Unique Cladding
When planning a new open-plan or broken-plan design, a unique cladding design on the walls or furniture can elevate any scheme into something extra-special. Laminam’s porcelain surfaces are available in thicknesses ranging from 2mm to 20mm and its thinner, yet as hardwearing designs, are ideal for crafting tables and shelves for that unique finishing touch, or adorning walls to make a statement.
11. Open Shelving
Kitchens for 2025 will feature more open shelving to create an open and airy look and feel, perfect for smaller spaces or rooms with limited natural light. Porcelain shelving can be used to great effect to complement porcelain worksurfaces, splashbacks, island cladding and tabletops, with a seamless design that flows effortlessly throughout the whole kitchen.
12. Japandi Trend
A pared-back blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design, the Japandi trend has been hugely popular in kitchens of late and this looks set to stay for 2025. Homeowners love its minimalist yet cocooning aesthetic, which takes its cue from nature and combines form with function. twO by Laminam is a 2mm ultra-thin surface, which is created with recycled and totally recyclable materials for a sustainable solution that works perfectly within this trend.
13. Tactile Textures
As well as keeping an eye on what’s hot for 2025 in styles and materials, it’s also important to consider finishes, too. Next year is all about tactile textures with feel appeal and this is something Laminam knows all about with its wide choice of finishes – Natural, Polished, Soft Touch, Bush-Hammered, Flamed, Chiselled, Caress, Polished Starlit and Rain, with the latter’s subtle bas-reliefs emulating the flow of water, perfect for wall cladding.
